Chris King Classic Hub 2001

Chris King Classic Hub 2001

10 Reviews

Brand: Chris King
Category: Hubs

Description: Chris King Classic hubs are the ultimate lightweight, high performance hubs. And, at only 268g for the rear and 112g for the front, it's hard to believe that they are also the toughest hubs out there. Chris King Classic hubs are available for all types of road and off-road riding. The front hubs are offered with a choice of bolt-on or quick-release axles. | | The rear hubs are available in: Road (130mm), Mountain (135mm), and 140mm spacing with either an aluminum or a stainless steel driveshell. All rear Classic hubs are 7/8/9 speed compatible (for 7 speed cassettes, use a 4.5mm spacer ). Standard drillings are: 28, 32, and 36 holes for front hubs. 28, 32, 36 for rear hubs. | | Heavy duty option: For those riders who want the additional stiffness and holding power of a bolt on axle - the rear Tandem hub is now available with a bolt on axle and stainless steel driveshell. The bolt on axle allows the use of either the FunBolts? or the QR adapters for maximum versatility. - the rear classic hub is now available with the FunBolts?. Just as with the single speed, the new bolt on axle allows the use of either the FunBolts? or the QR adapters for maximum versatility. The bolt on axle with QR adapters adds only 26g; the bolt on axle with FunBolts? adds only 62g over our standard classic hub.

The Review
It had been 5 years eversince I had used my Chris King till today and had been sent once for servicing, till today it still performing very well and operational fit after gone thru extreme intensity ride. Although is expensive but it worth more than these 5 years of usage and now I still treat it as my best hub ever.

Overall i can vowed that it is the best in the market. Still is but the fact that it is expensive make ppl stay away from it. For the buzzing sound some ppl still ask me why is it so noisy I tell them Harley is noisy too hahahaha!!

Strengths
Well wif the price paid for wow tis is the best of them all i should say. Takes wat ever terrain given to it. Total X factor in it..

Weaknesses
Price!! n The buzz sound can irritate ppl especially when you need to know a the location of a certain sound that doesn't come from the hubs.. hehehe but wat do i care, i like the sound!!

The Review
Over two years ago I wrote my review on the CK Classics. It is time for a follow up and I am pleased to say - my CKs are working as well today as they have since day one. 3 years of abuse (rain, shine, mud baths, drops etc) and counting, the first rims have worn out but the hubs are still going strong - on a new set of mavic 517s now.

I have had no problems with these puppies at all. If the buzz does not bother you - these should be at the top of your shopping list

Strengths
*very reliable
*feels rock solid - no wiggly bits - confidence inspiring
*lightweight
*lightning engagement

Weaknesses
*having to explain every now and then that the loud buzz from my bike - is perfectly normal.

Duration of product used

The Review
Ppl who can afford it, go for it. But for me, tis is the best hub ever that i use. The purpose of this hub is: it provide fast clutch engagement to cause fast acceleration which most trial n Off road biker who need it most due to its 72 paws engaging system compare to most hub which 3 times lesser the features, and it does not cause any unnecessary disengagement jumps which most of the hub cause it. However due to its hollow aluminium axle, i would recommend you to use a good stainless steel skewer but not titanium which will wear n tear the axle very easily as wat the mechanics who knows this hub very well. And of cuz many ppl think that CK hub is noisy, but as wat i see, without this beautiful bee noise n super fine constuction, they may not have this special function that no anybody have it.

Strengths
1. Variety colors
2. Strong paintwork
3. Replaceable spare parts
4. cool looking
5. Very light in weight
6. Least maintainance
7. Very tough
8. Smoothness
9. Quick clutch engagement
10. No clutch disengagement

Weaknesses
1. Expensive
2. Noisy. Of cuz is noisy, if not it will defeat the purpose.

" Best Hub There Is... "

Overall Rating
Reviewed on: 26th May 2002 from Singapore

The Review
well you guys pay $500+ for these hubs hence they should be reasonably good...when i first got mine, i was blown away by its engagement...powering ur way out of corners, climbing slopes and accelerating never felt so powerful and instantaneous...however, the rear hub is slower due to the engagement and then were slower than my xt...my xtr was even faster...the rear hubs always need to be tightened after even BT ride...such trouble should not come from a $500+ hub...i guess these hubs should be for that winning race and not for the bi-weekly BT training rides...5 for performance and 3 for the rest...

Strengths
light...
very cosmetically appealing...
smooth front hub...
very good engagement...
life time warranty...
the cool buzzz...

Weaknesses
not the lightest hub around...
expensive...
slow rear hub...
rear hub needs tightening after rough rides...
